This was constructed on the day of the insurrection at the Capitol. The rioters, while they were storming the Capitol, chanted “Hang Mike Pence.” Pence had to be whisked away to one of the lower levels of the Capitol, for his own safety. He was urged to flee the Capitol completely. He chose to stay. It is alledged that Pence’s Chief of Staff warned the Secret Service, on the day before the insurrection, that Pence’s safety was at risk. Marc Short, the Chief of Staff, was concerned that Trump would turn on Pence and put him in danger.
During the insurrection, Trump was told of the “hang Mike Pence” chant. Trump said that maybe the rioters were right and that Pence “deserved it”. Trump never called Pence during, or after, the riot, inquiring as to Pence’s health. As the hearings continue, this can never be forgotten. To put it plainly, Trump is a selfish self, centred (fill in the rest).
