A follow up chirp on Liz Cheney. Liz Cheney could become prersident some day. If she wins the presidency, a lot of the support could be from the left. Liberals, who love her now, could come to regret having her as president, given her ultra conservative policies.
However, she deserves a ton of credit for what she has done. Right now, she is a pariah to Trumpers. The Republican party, currently, is the party of Trump. So yes, Liz Cheney could become President. However, if she chose another path, she would have had a far easier road to get there.
Her father was a congressman in Wyoming for near 20 years. Her father was Vice President for 8 years. Liz, herself, has served as Wyoming’s congresswoman for three terms. Both her and fatrher served under the Bush administration. It is fair to say that the Cheneys are a Republican Party dynasty. Liz was also a darling of the Republican Party, having become the third highest ranking member of the Republican Congress. She was already being talked about as being a strong presidental candidate, if not in 2024, then definitely in 2028.
That all changed after January 6. She has been against Trump’s “big lie” and is now on the January 6 Committee. That took guts. Where most Republicans have taken the low road, she took the high road, diminishing her chances of ever becoming President.
Her incentive, now, is to bring down Trump. She may very well still become a presidential candidate for the Republican Party in 2024. Her chances of becoming the presidential candiate winner are not good. However, she might blow everything up and run as a third party candidate. Back in 1992, Ross Perot ran as a third party candidate and won 18% of the popular vote. His candiadacy may have cost George Bush senior the presidency. Ralph Nader was a third party candidate in 2000. Al Gore lost to George Bush junior by 534 votes in Florida. Raplh Nader got over 97,000 votes in Florida. It can be said that Nader cost Gore the presidency.
This is going to be interesting to watch over the next little while. What will Liz do?
