The Republicans have been aftrer Hunter Biden for years now. They desperately want to link Hunter to his dad in the hopes of exposing some type of President Joe Biden corruption. They want to do to Joe Biden what the Democrats have done to Trump. They keep using the phrase ‘the Biden Crime Family’.
Well, Hunter Biden threw a wrench into the process. He is willing to testify before a Republican controlled House Committee, but he will only do so in public. House Oversight Chair all along has said that if Hunter was willing to testify before the Committee, that the Committee,
“drop everything (if Hunter wanted to testify) in front of the committee.”
Now that Hunter has stated that he does want to testify, Comer has changed his tune.
“Hunter Biden is trying to play by his own rules instead of following the rules required of everyone else. That won’t stand with House Republicans.”
It is obvious where Comer is coming from. If Hunter were to testify behind closed doors, Republicans could come out of the session and say whatever they want as to Hunter’s testimony. By testifying in public, the Republicans would lose their ability to provide their version of the facts.
Comer’s reaction is not sitting well even with those withing his own party. Pennsylvania Representative Dan Meuser states,
“I think they ought to take Hunter Biden up on his offer, shall we call it, and I think that there’s plenty of good questions that should be asked of him.”
Even Republican Senator and January 6 track star, Josh Hawley said Biden could testify in public.
“The American people have a right to see — and also, you know, they should evaluate this for themselves. I mean, if you do this stuff in private … what happens is there’s inevitably bunches of leaks, and then it’s, ‘Well so-and-so said this, and so-and-so said that.’ It’s like, just do it in public, and let the public see, open the door so y’all can report on it.”
Hawley is absolutely correct on this, for once. I think, eventually, Comer will have to give in and allow a public testimony. The Republicans did this to themselves, a lose-lose situation.
