A Mess

Pete Rose was a Major League Baseball (MLB) player and manager He won a number of awards while he played. He has statistics worthy of putting him in the Hall of Fame. However, even though his playing days are long gone, he is not yet, nor likely never will be in the Hall of Fame. The offense he committed was gambling on baseball games, while he was in the sport. As of now, he is permanently ineligible to entry into the Hall of Fame.

Shoehei Otani is a 29 year old baseball player, who just signed a 10 year contract with the Los Angelas Dodgers, for a staggering $700 million. He is the new Babe Ruth of baseball. He played in Japan for a number of years, winning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) five times. He came to America and played for the Anaheim Anels for a few years, winning the American League MVR award, twice. What makes him special is that he excels in both pitching and hitting, at a Hall of Fame level, in both skills.

Otani uses an interpreter. There currently is a scandal, in which the interpreter was fired. The supposed reason is that there is $4.5 million missing from Otani’s account. The scandal is that, supposedly, Otani was aware of the $4.5 million leaving his account. Furthermore, Otani had instructed the interpreter to use that money for gambling on baseball games.

This is still in the early stages of being investigated. Otani has denied ever gambling on baseball games. I am sure that all sides involved, excluding the fired interpreter, perhaps, will be on the side of Otani’s denial. If the scandal is true, it will send shockwaves and could end up with Otani banned from Major League Baseball.
