The US has the NCAA basketball tournament, known as the Big Dance. The first week of the Big Dance is full of upsets. It is the most exciting week in NCAA basketball.
Canada has our own version of the Bug Dance, that being the NHL playoffs. Especially the first round, compared to basketball’s first week. Upsets can occur where the 8 seed beats the first seed. Boston learned that last year against Florida.
Just like college basketball’s Big Dance, many Canadians are into playoff pools, with the first round making or breaking their pools
The first game of the round was rather humdrum with the team winning 7 of the games. The only real surprises were Dallas losing at home to Vegas and Winnipeg’s hit goalie letting in six goals and still winning. Yesterday though, Carolina came back from three goals down for a stunning victory. Boston lost at home to an injury depleted Toronto team and Edmonton fans are dreaming of winning it all after a dominant first game. So, until the end of May, when games will stop being played every night, there are going to be a lot of tired bleary eyed Canadians, the next morning.
