When I first turned to one of the news channels and saw the video replay of this I immediately thought fake. I went on Twitter, and a number of others thought the same thing. It then became apparent, that it was the real thing. The shooter was shot dead and it turns out that the shooter was a registered Republican, a 20-year-old with no criminal record. I got a few texts from people last night, saying things such as it’s too bad that the shooter missed.
Trump is now a martyr. I cannot see him losing the election in November. Republicans are already blaming Biden for this with one Republican saying he should be jailed. There is already misinformation out there, of course, with one example being that the Trump team had asked for additional security yesterday and were denied. In fact, additional security was posted.
America is polarized. Last night makes it worse. Many will say with some justification that this is Trump’s own doing stemming from January 6. I would say it started long before that when Trump walked down the escalator back in 2015. Right now, there is a genuine hatred among some Democrat and Republican supporters of the other. Last night makes that worse.
This can go two ways from here. Trump can take a humbled approach and cool the temperature down. I fear he’ll take the other approach and go out on an all out attack of Biden and the Democrats. If that happens, and it very may will, America is lost.
