Nightmare

I do a haiku every morning, which I share with friends and on social media. My haiku is a bit different because it rhymes. That is neither here nor there. I think this haiku this morning represents what quite a lot of people feel right now.

I remember being in Mesa with friends back in 2016 when Trump beat Hillary. The shock and the depression that for days. I remember being in Saskatoon with friends, going to bed on election night, depressed, because Trump seemed to have a big lead. The tide started shifting the next day.

This loss to Trump is worse, much worse. It is worse because we saw what Trump did, while in power for four years. We saw what Trump did after he lost.

America has just voted in, for the second time, a person who is a rapist, a liar, a con man, an accused racist, and a narcissist. This is the man who wanted to shoot rioters in the knees. He had guard rails back, then that prevented him from doing so. He won’t have them this time. This is a man who trusted Putin instead of his own intelligence agencies. He will pick Putin over Ukraine. Sadly, Ukraine is done for. Poland, my ancestral home, could very easily be next. NATO, is that risk.

I feel your pain this morning because I’m there too.
