A few weeks back, Donald Trump issued a warning to Hamas. Trump war that Hamas had better release all hostages by Saturday of that week, or else. It was taken as bluster. Saturday passed. Nothing happened.
Donald Trump repeated this warning a couple weeks later. It was little reported. Life went on. Trump went back to talking about turning Gaza into a new version of the French Riviera requiring all Palestinians to vacate Gaza.
One person did take heed of Trump‘s warning. that would be Benjamin Netanyahu. The US, under Joe Biden, tried, often times unsuccessfully, to restrain Netanyahu, subsequent to the October 7 attacks. Biden paid for it in his election loss. He lost the Arab-American voting bloc.
Trump is doing the opposite of Biden. He is giving full support to Netanyahu ‘s intent to eliminate Hamas completely. Netanyahu is again on the move to eliminate Hamas. Earlier this week 400 Gazans paid with their lives. Israel is now commencing with the ground assault into Gaza, where many more will die. This will likely also end up with a death sentence for the remaining hostages, in retaliation to the new Israeli actions.
Netanyahu may completely eliminate Hamas. But the price paid will be high both in the short term and long-term. In the short term, many, including women and children, will die. Gaza itself most likely will be completely destroyed, more so than it is now. In the long run many many more Hamas or whatever follows after Hamas fighters vowing revenge against Israel will emerge.
That’s all I have for today.
