So who is this lady? She is Susan Monarez. She used to be the director of the Centre for Disease Control (CDC) until a couple of days ago. She was let go by Health and Human Services secretary RFK Junior earlier this week. The reason she was let go was that she disagreed with RFK Junior on vaccine policy. She also refuse to fire top agency officials. Karoline Leavitt, Trump‘s press secretary, said this about the firing.
“It was President Trump who was overwhelmingly reelected on November 5. This woman has never received a vote in her life. If people are not aligned with the president’s vision and the secretary’s vision to make our country healthy again, then we will gladly show them the door.”
Monarez is a respected scientist, worldwide. When she was fired others in the CDC resigned in support of her. Meanwhile, RFK Junior is a vaccine sceptic. His boss, Donald Trump, suggested that Covid numbers would decrease if there were less Covid tests. Donald Trump also suggested injecting bleach to get rid of Covid. Can you see where this is going?
This is an issue, not only with the CDC, but with other departments. Do the heads of these departments follow research and logic or do they follow the whims of Donald Trump? This is just terrifying. Donald Trump does not care about guardrails. He just wants yes people no matter what. Back in 2016 he said that he is the only person who can save America. He is following that tenet now. Only he knows best. This is coming from the man who said he would end the invasion in Ukraine in 24 hours.
