The past couple of weeks, Republicans and right wing media outlets have been downplaying the no Kings protest, that were held yesterday. republicans, including House Speaker, Mike Johnson, said that the protesters who would show up on Saturday, would be Hamas supporters, ANTIFA, and terrorists themselves. Republicans were warning of violence and were calling for the National Guard. Last year Republicans were up in arms when Biden called some Trump supporters garbage. This is what the Trump press secretary said last week.
“The Democrat Party’s main constituency are made up of Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals.”
If their hopes were to reduce crowd numbers yesterday, it failed. 7 million protesters showed up at over 2500 events. There was no violence. There was no need to call the National Guard. This was a call for the protection of democracy. This was anti-ICE, anti-poverty, anti-government shut down. It was pro-heart and pro-hope. This was a demonstration against the president who released George Santos from prison. This was a demonstration against the man who already is acting like a king with no guard rails.
Hopefully what yesterday did was get the momentum going until it becomes a tidal wave next November in the midterm elections, despite all the Republican efforts to fix the election. It remains to be seen.
