Mind Boggling

I am Canadian. We have Universal healthcare. I go to the doctors for a physical and I don’t pay. I go to a specialist. I don’t pay. I get surgery. I don’t pay. Simple as that.

I need health travel insurance if I want to stay in the states for a while. My grandson, a few years back, while in Arizona, had a bad flu and was dehydrated. A visit to the hospital to hydrate him and back home the same night cost $5000.

This chirp was going to be about the expiration of Obama care subsidies at the end of this year. Donald Trump supposedly is going to come up with a new plan to address this. Many Americans will be paying double in premiums, compared to what they are paying now, if nothing is done by the end of the year.

I started reading an article about how Obama care premiums work and how subsidies work. While I was reading the article, I saw phrases such as income cap, 400% over the poverty level, zero premium plans, and, lower income enrollees. My mind exploded. As a Canadian, I have no idea as to what composes the Obama care framework and the subsidy framework. None. I won’t even pretend to let on that, I understand it.

I am so thankful I am Canadian. I am so thankful that I don’t have to count my pennies to decide whether I should visit a doctor or not.

That’s all I have for today. To my American friends stealing from a beer commercial. Stay healthy, my friends.
