Transformational

Last year, Mark Carney said that Donald Trump was a transformative president. He did not mean that in a good way. Basically, Donald, in words that you would understand, he was calling you an ignorant shit disturber. Pardon my French.

Mark Carney gave a speech, in Davos, yesterday, showing himself as a transformative, Prime Minister and world leader. He basically said that things have changed. He said that we can’t be nostalgic for the old days. We cannot rely on things the way they used to be. There is a new world order out there and countries, especially the middle powers such as Canada have to adapt to it.

Mark Carney basically said that Trump has created a rupture, in the world and each country, within this world order has to rely on itself in a pragmatic sort of way. This does not mean that countries have to become fortresses. It is a recognition of each country’s own strengths and the recognition of strength and desires of other countries. Canada can no longer rely on its long historical relationship with the US. Donald Trump has proven that.

Mark Carney then went onto identify agreements that he has made since the tariffs with other countries and groups of countries. He received a standing ovation after his speech. That does not often happen in this kind of setting. Donald Trump will be making his speech today and no doubt the reaction will be quite different.

After seeing a speech like that, I am so proud to be a Canadian. I am so thankful that I am a Canadian.

That’s all I have for today.
