Pierre – Not Again

Pierre Poilievre, had a severe case of déjà vu yesterday. He woke up to find out that a third conservative MP has crossed the floor to the liberals. Matt Jeneroux, representing Edmonton. Riverbend is now a liberal member of Parliament. He had won four elections representing the conservatives starting back in 2015. Jeneroux, now becomes the third liberal MP representing Alberta.

This one is especially painful for Pierre given that Jeneroux, had announced 10 weeks ago that he was resigning from parliament. He explained his change of heart, as follows.

“Quite simply, (I) couldn’t sit on the sidelines”

“It felt disingenuous and quite simply wrong to be sitting on the sidelines anymore.”

Pierre did not take the crossover too well

“Matt Jeneroux has betrayed the people of Edmonton Riverbend who voted for affordable food and homes, safe streets, and a strong resource sector. Conservatives will continue our fight for a Canada that’s affordable, safe, and self-reliant.”

Pierre had just gone through a leadership, where over 87% of those who voted approved of his leadership. Now this happens to him. A reminder that while 160,000 people participated in the election process that ended up with Mark Carney as the liberal party leader, only 3000 people participated in Pierre’s leadership review process. The conservatives might come to regret the limited amount of people that participated. This is especially true given Pierre’s low popularity ratings among the general Canadian population.

There will be three by elections coming up. Two of them are in safe liberal seats. The third one, the liberal candidate had won by one vote. The result was overturned because of irregularities. If the liberals win that one, they will have a majority.

PR must be happy that this crossover will slip out of the headlines given the arrest of Andrew, formally known as Prince, just a couple of hours ago.

That’s all I have for today.
