John Roberts is the Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court. He was nominated to the position by George W. Bush in 2005. Clarence Thomas is a Justice of the US Supreme Court and he was nominated by George H. W. Bush in 1991.

There was a draft legal ruling leaked out a month ago with that ruling effectively reversing the Roe vs. Wade ruling made by the Supreme Court, nearly 50 years ago. The Supreme Court announced that the leaked ruling was authentic. Chief Justice Roberts took pains to state that the text in the draft ruling does not necessarily mean that it will be the final text. He also stated that the leaking of the ruling was a violation and ordered an investigation. Since the leak, there have been massive protests staged by both sides of the abortion issue, including, sadly, protests in front of the homes of the Supreme Court Justices. In addition, evoking memories of January 6, an 8 foot fence has been erected around the Supreme Court building.

There is evidence coming out that this issue is causing tension within the Supreme Court, especially between Roberts and Thomas. As a sidelight, Ginny Thomas, the wife, has been a vocal supporter of Trump’s election conspiracy theories. Justice Thomas is fully supportive of reversing the initial Roe vs. Wade ruling. Thomas, is supportive of a compromise ruling. Thomas recently took a veiled jab at Roberts, stating, in a roundabout fashion, that the Justices trusted each other more, before 2005, when Roberts came on board. Roberts has frustrated his conservative Justrice counterparts, in the past, by engineering past rulings that went against conservative wishes. It will be interesting to see how things turn out. It is safe to say, that the complete reversal of Roe vs. Wade, might not be a done deal.
