The Edmonton Oilers are in the Stanley Cup finals for the first time since 2006. Back in 2006, I and either my wife or my daughter went to every home game in all four rounds of the playoffs. We were earning middle-class incomes and we could afford to go to all the games.
Single game home tickets for the finals just went on sale. Games three and four will be in Edmonton. The average ticket price for game four is US$1,106. Some tickets to the upper bowl are going for $2000. Some tickets in the lower bowl are going for up to $4000. I don’t think I came close to spending $4000 for all the games back in 2006.
It is just stunning. Even if I was inclined to go, I could not afford it.
they say hockey is a rich man’s game. It certainly is a rich fan’s game as well.
