The Liberals lost a seat, in Toronto, this week. This is a seat that they have held for the last 27 years and they lost it. Following this loss, there have been some calls for Justin Trudeau to resign and pass the torch to another. Trudeau, is trailing prime Minister wannabe, Pierre Poilievre, in the polls. is it time for Justin to resign as Prime Minister?
In Canada, we have a habit of changing political parties, as the ruling government, every 10 years, it seems. We had Pierre Trudeau for a while. This was followed by Brian Mulroney, then Jean Chrétien, followed by Stephen, Harper, and now Justin. There were minor fill ins such as John Turner, Kim Campbell, and Paul Martin. But these were all short term.
It seems that regardless of whether Justin resigns or not, Pierre Poilievre we will be the next long-term Prime Minister of Canada. Justin has been Prime Minister for nine years now. Like it or not, his expiry date is on the horizon. We might have to put up with him for the next 8 to 10 years following the next election. If Justin does resign, the next Liberal Prime Minister. Could go the way of Turner, Campbell, and Martin, all serving as short term Prime Minister fill ins. I say this as a supporter of the Liberal Party period. I am not happy about this, but it is what it is.
