Oh No Canada!

Friday was the official start of the 2024 Olympics with the opening ceremonies. Unofficially the Olympics started earlier this week with events being held on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Olympics is a two week event where the world can get together and cheer for the athletes of their home countries. It is a time where athletes of all nationalities and religions can get together as one. it is time for unity in a world strife with disunity. It is an example of where countries and play well with each other.

There is already controversy though. The Christian right in the United States is deeply offended by the ceremonies themselves. they are saying that the ceremonies were an attack on Jesus and Christianity. I am just going to leave that there. It is not worth the bother.

The bigger controversy regards my home country of Canada. Canada has always been known as the good guy. Canada always does things above board. The Ben Johnson incident back in 1988, in Korea, tarnished our reputation a bit. Well, Canada has gone into full sleaze, unfortunately. Canada was caught spying on the New Zealand women’s soccer team. they were penalized six points, fined 200,000 francs and had their head coach sent home. Now as the investigation on this incident grows it seems that Canada has been doing this for years regarding both the women’s and men’s soccer teams. Canada could forfeit it’s gold medal one by the women’s team back in 2021, in Tokyo. Additional sanctions won’t be decided for months to come following up thorough investigation, but they could be harsh.

So much for our Dudley Do Right reputation. It is embarrassing to say the least and so very sad.

Just one last note. For you younger ones wondering who Dudley Do Right is just ask your parents or grandparents. Have a nice Sunday.
