“I’m not Lisa, my name is Julie
Lisa left you years ago”
Those were the first lines of a country song sang by Jessi Colter, back in 1975. There was a version of this in last night‘s debate. Pierre Poilievre kept on referring to the last 10 years of liberal government and to Justin Trudeau. Mark Carney’s response was I’m not Justin Trudeau. I am Mark and Justin left a couple months ago. By the way, the carbon tax is gone also.
Nobody really won or lost the debate last night. Mark Carney did win the first half hour of the debate given that the topic was Trump and tariffs. This was an advantage to him for those viewers who may have just watched the first half hour then went elsewhere. But all the candidates had their moments, including Poilievre during the security section of the debate. Jagmeet Singh was uncommonly aggressive last night, interrupting both Carney and Poilievre a number of times.
if there was a loser, it would be the election leadership commission who organized the debates, both French and English. Some of the questions last night were questionable at best. An example was the last question where candidates were given the chance to ask a question of another candidate. Of course, all three other candidates questioned Carney. They were able to give two or three minutes statements of their own position before they asked the question. It was like they were giving closing statements and then they asked the question.
There was also to be a press scrum, right after the debate, where each candidate would go to the podium and answer questions from the press. It was cancelled last night because right wing so-called media outlets such as Rebel News and True North had stacked the interview lineup. The same thing happened after the French debate, resulting in Carney fielding off the wall questions such as how many genders are there and Singh outright , refusing to answer any questions from the so-called extreme right wing reporters.
That’s all I have for today.
