Danielle Smith has been playing the ‘Alberta is getting screwed’ card for years now. Her separatist dreams are well known, in Alberta.
Smith supported Pierre Poilievre, in the last federal election, even asking Donald Trump to hold off on the tariff threats until after the election to help PP win.
The day after Mark Carney won the election, Smith introduced Bill 54, the election statute amendment act. Prior to the introduction of this act anyone wanting to put a question for referendum needed signatures from 20% of the Alberta voting population and would have 90 days to do this. Former conservative, deputy premier Thomas Lukaszuk, had began the referendum process under the group called Forever Canadian, submitting a question basically asking whether Albertans wanted to stay in Canada
Smith by submitting her act, which was passed later in May and put in force on July 4, America’s Independence Day, made it easier for separatists to put in their own question. Instead of needing signatures from 20% of the voting population it is now only 10%. Also the signature gathering has been extended from 90 days to 120 days. The separatists waited until the new act was passed before submitting to the referendum process.
Where as, Forever Canadian, requires 294,000 signatures, the separatist group requires 177,000 signatures Danielle changed the rules.
The pro Canada group has to get all confirmed 294,000 signatures in by October 31. As of this chirp, they are still 38,000 signatures away. According to one volunteer a frustration is that many Albertans do not know about this process at all. The pro Canada group are going out every day going to events, setting up events and going door-to-door trying to push over the signature requirement deadline.
I am a proud Albertan. But I also a proud Canadian. I have roots outside of Alberta. I have been Albertan for 26 years now, but I have been Canadian for far longer.

That’s all I have for today.
