Today, is the day that Parliament votes on the budget. If the vote goes against approval of the budget, there will be an election called, which would take place shortly after the holidays.
Right now, the liberals are two votes short of a majority. So they need at least a few opposition members to either abstain from voting or vote to approve the budget. The conservatives and the Bloc Quebecois have already said that they would vote against the budget. That leaves the NDP who has seven members and Elizabeth May of the green party.
Right now, the NDP is standing at 11% in the polls and are running with only an interim leader. Meanwhile, Pierre Poilievre’s favourability rating is about 25% lower than Mark Carney’s.
Furthermore, voters given a Christmas election campaign, would likely punish the party who caused this election. Nobody wants this election.
The media will be hyping up this vote, when really there’s nothing there to hype up. It will end up as a nothing burger and tomorrow will just be another day in Parliament
That being said, I will be able to chirp about important stuff like the marital spat between Donald Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene.
That is all I have for today.
