Mark’s Mess

It seems that Mark Carney has been having negotiations with Danielle Smith, premier of Alberta and Scott Moe, premier of Saskatchewan. The result of these negotiations will be a memorandum of understanding. (MOU) for an oil sands pipeline from Alberta to the BC coast and will also involve an oil tanker ban exemption for the northern BC coast

The oil industry is jumping for joy with this announcement of the MOU

“It signals to the world that Canada is, once again, open for business, and bring your capital. We’ve got the resources, let’s see the projects — and let’s go.”

One tiny problem, though, well, not that tiny. BC premier, David Eby, was not involved in the discussions at all. To say that he is a bit upset about this would be an understatement.

“I underlined for the prime minister how unacceptable it was to me to have Saskatchewan and Alberta speaking about matters in British Columbia without British Columbia at the table.”

“This is not something that would happen to Quebec. This is not something that would happen to other provinces in the federation.”

Just a tiny bit upset. More so it seems that First Nations, through which land this pipeline would go through, were not involved in the negotiations, as well.

More from Premier Eby.

“…the coastal First Nations need to be at the table in these conversations about our province,”

Mark, this is what happens when you get involved with Danielle Smith. You sink down to her level. You may also have a problem with your own cabinet, Mark. There are a number of climate change advocates in your cabinet. There are also a number of liberal MPs from BC, who are not happy with this. As Ricky Ricardo from the old I Love Lucy show would say, Mark ‘you got a lot of spainin to do’.

That is all I have for today.
