See The Difference?

There were two mass shootings, this weekend, that captured news headlines. The first one happened at Brown University, in Rhode Island. Two people killed, a number, seriously injured, and the killer still on the loose. This is the 391st mass shooting of the year in the United States. The two victims add to the over 13,000 people killed by guns this year in the United States. Furthermore, sadly, this is the 75th school shooting in the United States this year.

The reaction will be as expected. Thoughts and prayers. This is not the time to talk about gun control measures. No one is going to take away my guns. Yada yada. Nothing will be done.

The second mass shooting occurred, occurred during a Hanukah celebration, at Bondi Beach, in Sydney Australia. 15 people were shot dead and a far greater number injured. This is how the Australian Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, reacted to the shooting

“The government is prepared to take whatever action is necessary. Included in that is the need for tougher gun laws.”

It is noted that the two gunman, father and son, had a gun license for the last 10 years and had legally amassed six guns. Albanese noted that.

“People’s circumstances can change. People can be radicalized over a period of time. Licenses should not be in perpetuity.”

Albanese, will be presenting stronger gun measures to his cabinet, today

Christopher Minns, is the premier of New South Wales, in which Sydney is located in. This is what he had to say about perpetual gun licenses.

“It means introducing a bill to Parliament to — I mean to be really blunt — make it more difficult to get these horrifying weapons that have no practical use in our community.”

Can you see the difference between how the two countries are handling this? One more reason why I won’t be visiting the states for a long time to come.

That is all I have for today.
