Time For Change?

The conservative party leadership review is tonight. Pierre. Poilievre (PP) had an over 20% lead on Justin Trudeau as this year began. He was a shoo in to be the next Prime Minister. Then Justin Trudeau resigned. Mark Carney became the new leader. Then Donald Trump and his 51st state rhetoric and his tariff threats happened. During the election campaign, PP was still running against Justin Trudeau and paid scant attention to Donald Trump. Two brutal mistakes that cost him the election. PP will be giving an hour long speech to save his leadership, tonight. Members will vote approximately two hours later as to whether he should remain leader or not. Stephen Harper in his last leadership review got 84% support. Some consider this number to be the benchmark for PP.

Over the last few months, PP’s approval ratings have plummeted. Mark Carney, on the other hand, with his stance on Trump and his speech in Switzerland has seen his ratings shoot up

Within the conservative party, there’s still strong support PP. Part of the fact might be that there’s no other real serious candidate outthere. Right now, things are coming up roses for Mark Carney. Another rose for Carney could come tonight if PP remains conservative leader.

That’s all I have for today.
