The US has MAGA, unfortunately, we have maple MAGA. In Alberta, a lot of them have coalesced into a separatist movement. They want to be their own landlocked country, within Canada. They are getting tacit support from our premier, Daniel Smith, who wants a sovereign Alberta within Canada, whatever that means.
There was a spirited forever Canada referendum movement last year, which resulted in 490,000 signatures to the petition question do you want to remain in Canada.
The petition was forwarded to the Alberta legislature where it quietly disappeared. Meanwhile, Danielle Smith, changed the rules so that the separatist group could submit a petition with their own question, requiring less than 200,000 signatures and with a longer time period to get these signatures.
This is the environment that Alberta is within right now. How serious are the separatist? They’ve had meetings with top officials within the Trump administration. No names have been identified, from the Trump administration, but it is rumoured that Stephen Miller was involved in the discussions. What the separatists are asking from the Trump administration is a loan of $500 billion so that the separatists can establish their own country within Canada. These discussions are happening.
I see these people as traitors, plain and simple. This puts Pierre Poilievre in a tricky situation given that he represents a riding in Alberta, which is home to a number of these separatists. Is he going to represent the views of his constituents or of his country?
Fortunately, polling numbers indicate that less than 25% of Albertans actually do want separation. So it will not happen. However, it is a distraction that most Albertans can do without.
That’s all I have for today.
