911

We all remember where we were that day. On our local rock station, I heard that a plane had crashed into one of the twin towers. This was as our youngest was getting ready for school. I thought it must’ve been a small plane and thought nothing more of it.

Went downstairs to my office, turned on the computer and saw that a second plane had crashed into the towers. Turned on the TV. First image I saw was both towers smoke and fire coming out of them.

I knew right then, and there that the world had changed. This would be our generations, Pearl Harbor. The rest of the day. Wild rumours. A third plane crash, this one into the Pentagon. Then a plane crash somewhere in Pennsylvania. And then the towers fell. Utter shock.

A week later, once flights had started again. I was at a layover at the Winnipeg airport. There was a flight crew change. A flight attendant coming on board saw a stack of Bibles in one of the overhead bins. She started crying ‘ what are these doing here?’ She had a breakdown right on the plane. They had to take her off.

Like I say, we all have memories.
