Citizen Trump

The US Federal Appeals Court for the District of Columbia has ruled that Trump does not have immunity from federal prosecution. The following statements in the ruling pretty well sums it up,

“For the purpose of this criminal case, former President Trump has become citizen Trump, with all of the defenses of any other criminal defendant,”

“Presidential immunity against federal indictment would mean that, as to the president, the Congress could not legislate, the Executive could not prosecute and the Judiciary could not review.”

“We cannot accept former President Trump’s claim that a president has unbounded authority to commit crimes that would neutralize the most fundamental check on executive power — the recognition and implementation of election results,”

Trump is not above the law. Given the urgency of this case, the court fast tracked this by saying that Trump needs to appeal this decision to the Supreme Court by February 12. Trump has been using delay tactics all along in hopes of delaying the subversion trial until after the November election. The prevailing opinion is that this is an open and shut case. It is quite possible that the Supreme Court may not handle the appeal and let the decision stand

It must be remembered that President Ford gave Richard Nixon a full pardon. He gave the pardon based on the presumption that Nixon was subject to prosecution for the activities he carried out while President.

Citizen Trump has a nice ring to it. Prisoner Trump sounds even better.
