Our New Winter

Today is February 28. Winter is back with us right now, reminding us that we still do get winters, out in Alberta. Winter, outside of infrequent visits has not been around much in our neck of the woods. A green Christmas and New Years. First time ever that i was able to read out on the deck, in my shorts, in both January and February. We actually have 100 fires smouldering right now and given the lack of snow, this summer is going to be a bad season for fires

Meanwhile, back East, you have been experiencing a warm winter yourselves. Only February but parts of Texas has already seen 100 degree days. Dallas has seen 90 degree days. Omaha, Nebraska has seen its earliest 80 degree day.

The picture above, taken from the CNN website is of a fire in the Texas Panhandle. It has so burned 500,000 acres, is out of control, and has burned more acres THAN ALL the acres burned in all fires, last year, in Texas. Did I mention that it is only February 28?

To paraphrase a margarine commercial from long ago,

You don’t mess with Mother Nature.
