There are stories of the Emperor Nero playing the fiddle while three quarters of Rome burned down to the ground. Today the phrase ‘while Rome is burning’ is used for situations where disasters are occurring while those in power are just fiddling away doing nothing.

Joe Biden is in power. That is true. He wants to help fund Ukraine and to resolve the situation in Israel. Yet Trump, the Republican Congress and Netanyahu in Israel are fiddling away, trying to cling to their power while the world is literally at a powder keg

As bad as Ukraine is, the situation in the Middle East is far worse. Gaza is a nightmare. Over 30,000 dead and a famine growing. Hezbollah and Israel escalating strikes against each other drawing Lebanon closer to the conflict. Israeli settlers burning down Palestinian villages on the West Bank after a 14 year old Israeli boy went missing. The boy was found, dead. Iran vowing revenge on Israel after top military officials were killed. Iran threatening to close off the Straits of Hormuz. This morning Iran has seized an Israeli backed Portuguese ship The kettle is boiling and is on the verge of overflowing.

So stop the freaking fiddling around and do something quick or else the fire of Rome will seem like a little burning twig in comparison.
