Messy House

Mike Johnson is House Speaker. According to former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Johnson is there because Matt Gaetz did not want to be investigated for sleeping with a 17 year old. Things have gone downhill from there.

Before the Easter break, MTG said she would file a motion to have Johnson vacated from the Speakership. A number of Republican Congressmen were not happy with Moscow Marge. During the Easter break, Johnson went to Mar-a-Lago to kiss Trump’s ring. Trump, in return, stated that he supported Johnson. Well, that apparently is not enough. Republican Congressman, Thomas Massie, this week said that he would support Marge, in her motion As a result, the Republican Conference is in shambles, with Members sniping at each other.

Ok. So the above seems messy. But that is nothing.

Johnson indicated that he will put to a vote, by the end of this week, motions to provide funding for Israel and Ukraine. Some Republicans, such as Moscow Marge, are upset about funding for Ukraine. Other Republicans are upset that immigration measures are not included. This despite the fact that a bipartisan Senate Committee cobbled together strong immigration legislation. However, Trump said don’t you dare consider that

It gets messier. Many Republicans want funding for Ukraine to go through. The vocal minority says if that happens they will vote Johnson out of the Speakership. However, if the Democrats vote to keep Johnson in, there will be enough votes to keep Johnson in. This will keep Johnson in until November but he will probably be primaried out for working with the Democrats. At the same time, the Democrats are afraid that if they support Johnson, their base will be become for supporting right wing extremist. But if the Democrats don’t support Johnson, then there will be no Speaker,no functioning House and the Republicans will look like they can’t govern, which they can’t.

This is all just the surface mess. It goes a lot deeper but it would just confuse more than it already is.

Enjoy the day.
