I’m Just As Guilty

The university protests in the US and now spreading into Canada seem to be getting worse. throughout occupied campuses you hear chance such as “Death to America”. at Columbia University yesterday students were ordered to leave campus grounds by 2 o’clock or be suspended. The encampments remained and subsequent to the 2 o’clock order, protesters occupied one of the campus buildings. Smashing windows while doing so.

When this first started a couple weeks ago, my own personal thought was this was being coordinated by outside agitators. My thought was that it can’t be students who started this. that the students doing this were being manipulated by outside forces and included non-students

After a little research on my part, I found out that the term outside agitators had been used many times in the past. The term was used in the civil rights protests in the 1960s and in the Vietnam war protests in the same time. More recently, the term was used following the George Floyd, slaying protests and by Republicans, following January 6, even though all those incarcerated following January 6, have been MAGA supporters

I must admit that I was too quick to give the outside agitator label towards what is happening. From my time at University I should’ve remembered that University students are very idealistic. Back then, for me, everything was either black or white. There was no grey areas in between. I seem to have forgotten that.

It could very well come out that there are outside agitators involved in the current protests. But there is more going on than that. People in authority would do well to remember that.
