Had a short but interesting taxi ride yesterday. After some idle chitchat, I asked the driver how long he had been in Canada. He said 41 years and that he had come from Iran. I quickly calculated that he must’ve come to Canada in 1983. I wondered why he came to Canada. He stated that he had been a political activist in Iran, and he had to escape the regime. He religious Khomeini regime.

So in my mind, I drew a comparison between the Khoumeini regime in Iran and Trump‘s evangelical support in the US. So I stated that he must not like Trump either. I got a response that was completely opposite of what I expected.

The driver loves Trump. One of the reasons he gave was that Trump had assassinated General Soleimani while Trump was president. He blamed Jimmy Carter for Khoumeini coming into power and for Obama and Biden, keeping the religious fanatics in power. He practically said that Obama and Biden were dead to him. He further added the George Soros was funding Iran.

He called Trump honest and straightforward. It was at this time that the taxi arrived at my destination.

An interesting viewpoint to be sure. I wonder if he represents a majority or minority viewpoint of Iranian refugees who fled the Khomeini regime.
