A break from politics and Trump for a day. We all need a break from Trump and hopefully that will happen to November.
I have been a Detroit Tigers fan and a Detroit Lions fan since I was a kid. I have been an Edmonton Oilers fan since moving out here many years ago. Do you know what it’s like being a Detroit Lions fan. They were so bad that they would be referred to a number of comedy shows. The Edmonton Oilers went through a decade of darkness where they did not get a sniff of the playoffs for 10 years. Detroit Tigers have not been in the playoffs since 2014. Bleh.
One exception to this is, I’m also Toronto Raptors fan and they did win the championship a few years back. Though they are going through their own dark period now ever since Kawhi gave us that one year of magic.
Then there are the comeback stories. In the late 60s, the amazing New York Mets came from 8 1/2 games back to win the World Series. The New York Yankees, in 1978, I think, came from 16 games back to beat out the Boston Red Sox for the pennant. Bucky Dent broke the hearts of the Red Sox fans. The St. Louis Blues were in last place at the start of the new year and they ended up winning the Stanley Cup a couple years back.
Well, after many years, the teams I’m supporting are starting to have their own feel good stories. it started when the Oilers lucked out and drafted Connor McDavid. Every oiler fan remembers where they were when the Oilers won the lottery to be able to pick McDavid. Last year the Oilers started with only two wins in their first 13 games. Dark clouds moving in. They ended up going to game seven of the finals. They still have a bright future ahead too.
The Lions hired Dan Campbell as their coach three years ago. The first year with him, they only won three of 17 games. Last year they were one half away from going to the Super Bowl. There future is also bright.
The Detroit Tigers were 11 1/2 games away from a wild card spot in early August. They were sellers at the trade deadline. The Tigers had only one healthy starting pitcher. Half of there team were rookies. Basically they were given up for dead. Somehow, they have won 30 of their next 41 games. As this is being chirped, they need only one more win in the next three games to get into the playoffs. it is fun watching them again. They also have a bright future ahead.
OK. This is my me blog for the week. Back to depressing politics tomorrow.
