The presidential election is now a month away and October is known for October surprises. Most memorable and recent recent history is James Comey investigating Hillary Clinton’s email in 2016 in late October. A number of things have happened the last couple of days. Should they be considered as surprises or not?

Judge Tanya Chutkan releases Jack Smith’s 165 page report, documenting Donald Trump’s interference in the 2020 election. The timing is a bit surprising because it was released a month before the election. However, the late release is due in part to Trump’s attempt to keep delaying this trial. So just a bit surprising.

The report details how Trump was told on January 6, during the riot, that Mike Pence‘a life was in danger. Trump supposedly replied, ‘so what?’. While this is shocking, knowing Trump, is it really a surprise?

Trump caught in lies about the federal response to hurricane Helene. Trump claims that Biden was asleep at the switch and that the governors of the affected states could not contact Biden. The governors then contradicting Trump and praising Biden for his response. Again, no surprise. Just another Trump lie.

The longshoreman going on strike on the East Coast shutting downports. This could severely affect the American economy with shortages and inflationary pressures. this puts Biden, who is pro union in a corner. Does he order the longshoreman back to work or does he let negotiations play out? the head of the longshoreman also has relations with Trump. So is it as a surprise at The Shore and go on right now? with Trump involved, not at all.

Ultra conservative Liz Cheney campaigning with Kamala Harris. A few years ago, this would’ve been a major surprise. Not anymore.

And on a personal level, the Detroit Tigers, with one of the lowest payrolls in baseball, sweeping the Houston Astros, in Houston in the first round of the playoffs. Maybe to everyone who do not follow the Tigers, this is a shocking surprise. But to us Tiger fans, it might be a bit of a surprise, but we will keep enjoying the ride.
