Glad I Am Canadian

UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson, was assassinated in cold blood earlier this week. The assassin, despite a massive manhunt, is still at large.

The UnitedHealth group is the largest health insurer in the states. The UnitedHealth group made a post on Facebook expressing sadness over Thompson’s death. So far there have been 62,000 reactions to the post. of the 62,000 reactions, 57,000 of them had laughing emojis. The post resulted in a flurry of outrage, against the insurer, as a result of medical claims denied by the insurer. according to KFF,a nonprofit health policy research group,

“Limitations on access to care due to claims denials have absolutely been a source of frustration for a long time.”

This is one person‘s example of frustration she went through, with another insurer,

“My breast cancer surgery was denied. Breast cancer. She asked me ‘well, is it an emergency?’ I don’t know- it’s (f***ing) cancer. What do you think? I had to appeal and luckily it went through. Evil to do that to people.”

I honestly did not know it was that bad, in the states. We may have flaws in our universal healthcare system up here in Canada. But it is nothing compared to what people in the states have to go through with private company health insurers.

That’s all I got for today.
