Wayne Gretzky Drive

To put it mildly, we are living in extraordinary times. Wayne Gretzky is known as the Great One. He was the greatest player in his era and many consider him the greatest player ever.

Gretzky won four Stanley cups for the Edmonton Oilers. In honour of this feat a street was renamed Wayne Gretzky Drive, back in 1999. Now there’s a petition going around requesting that the street be renamed. So far there are almost 8000 signatures on the petition.

Wayne Gretzky was at Donald Trump’s inauguration. He wore a MAGA hat during the after celebration. Donald Trump calls Gretzky a friend and says he should run for governor of the 51st state, that being Canada.

Gretzky was at the Canada versus USA final, in Boston. He was the honorary Canadian representative, at the game. During introductions, Mike Eruzione, a member of the 1980 miracle on ice team was honoured as the US representative and came onto the ice with a US hockey jersey. When Gretzky came on, he was wearing a suit and tie.

This has created a back lash in Canada. Gretzky has been quiet on the whole issue as to whether he thinks Canada should be a 51st state. His choice of not wearing a Canadian jersey has only added fuel to the fire.

Like I said, these are extraordinary times. In any other situation other than the one we are currently in this would’ve been a nothing burger. But these are the times we live in.

All I have for today.
