I have seen comments on various social media sites that Mark Carney it’s not a legitimate Prime Minister because he was not elected. A lot of those comments are from people in my home province of Alberta.
They seem to forget that our own premier got to be premier in the very same way. Jason Kenney resigned. The UCP had their convention. Danielle Smith was elected at the convention, to be the next premier. She then had to win a seat in the Alberta legislature. She then held an election the next year with the UCP winning a majority government. It is interesting how many Albertans forget that.
Another interesting fact. When Carney won the leadership on March 9, conservatives were demanding that he called for a federal election the very next day. At that time, the conservatives still had a very narrow lead in federal polls. This lead had narrowed down from over 20 points just two months ago. . Now Mark Carney will indeed call for a federal election, with the call being made this Sunday. It’s funny, but you don’t hear the conservative saying it’s about time. That might be due to the fact that liberals have taken the lead, in polling, with some pollsters suggesting that the liberals might win a majority government.
Last fact. Carney had a meeting with the premiers, yesterday. Everyone seem to be on the same page except for one person I wonder who could that be. Of course it is Danielle Smith. Danielle, you are not an outstanding premier, but you are sure standing out (of touch) with the rest of the premieres.
