Similarities Mate

No, these are not two couples lining up at a pool bar. These actually are Australians voting in their federal election that was held on Saturday. The burning question is where do they carry their ID?

The Australian Labour party is projected to be reelected today, with a possible majority, defeating the right wing Liberal-National Coalition. The similarities between this election and the one just held in Canada are striking.

Canada’s Liberal party, under Mark Carney is centre-left, as is the Australian labour party. Both election periods were under 40 days. Canada’s was 38 Australia’s was 36 days. Both parties were projected to lose, at the beginning of the election cycle. Both parties benefitted by Donald Trump’s threats of tariffs. The opposition parties, in both countries, were more aligned with Trump and struggle to disassociate themselves from Trump. Finally, the opposition leaders, of both parties, lost in their respective ridings.

The leader of the Labour Party in Australia is Anthony Albanese. so while it is elbows up here in Canada, I guess it is. Albo’s up down under.

All I have for today.
