Pariah?

The following is a portion of a joint statement issued by the government of the UK, France, and Canada, in response to Israel’s escalation of its offensive into Gaza

“We strongly oppose the expansion of Israel’s military operations in Gaza. The level of human suffering in Gaza is intolerable. Yesterday’s announcement that Israel will allow a basic quantity of food into Gaza is wholly inadequate. We call on the Israeli Government to stop its military operations in Gaza and immediately allow humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. This must include engaging with the UN to ensure a return to delivery of aid in line with humanitarian principles. We call on Hamas to release immediately the remaining hostages they have so cruelly held since 7 October 2023.

Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, stated earlier this week, that Israel plans to take control of Gaza. He is also encouraging emigration of Palestinians, in Gaza, to other countries. He is saying that this escalation will only when the remaining 57 hostages are returned.

Israel is allowing aid into Gaza. The UN is stating, however, that the level of aid being allowed is not sustainable, and that people in Gaza are facing famine.

Reaction to the joint statement has received both support and condemnation. Netanyahu is claiming that this is a moral victory for Hamas. Canada‘s conservative leader, Pierre Poilievre, is stating that this is giving support to a terrorist organization.

Canada, along with the other two countries, are threatening sanctions, if Israel does not go back from its escalation. The type of sanctions have not been spelled out yet. Meanwhile, more Palestinians are dying daily.

That’s all I have for today.
