TACO Trump has been signing executive order tariff hikes, left and right, since he became president. He did it again last night at midnight, raising tariffs on steel and aluminum to 50%. This is no laughing matter. But it is hard to take seriously given his TACO history. As I am pecking out this chirp, Dow Jones futures, have not reacted at all to this new tariff hike.
This is a lose-lose situation. The American consumer will be hit with higher prices in products such as automobiles and appliances. The construction industry will be hit with higher costs leading eventually to higher housing and building prices. That case of Budweiser will cost more given the aluminum cans.
Major exporters of steel and aluminum, such as Canada, will also be greatly affected. Thousands of jobs in my hometown of Sault Ste. Marie, home of Algoma steel (or whatever is called these days) are at risk.
Trump has said that countries are lining up to make deals with him. Well, where are they? These phantom countries, other than the UK, have yet to show up. TACO is playing a dangerous game here. Affected countries, such as Canada, are hard at work, looking for new markets to sell their product. This is a fight that TACO will lose. Bur, in the meantime, a lot of unnecessary pain will be suffered. Donald, you should’ve signed the executive order yesterday. That way it would’ve been TACO Tuesday.
That is all I have for today.
