Election Day

Today is election day in the riding of Battle River-Crowfoot, located in central Alberta. Pierre Poilievre hopes to win this riding, in order to regain his seat as opposition leader in Parliament.

Pierre lost to Bruce Fanjoy in his Ottawa riding back on April 28. Damien Kurek resigned his seat, following his victory in Battle River-Crowfoot back on April 28 to allow Pierre to run in this election. Kurek won with 83% of the voters voting for him. This riding is considered one of the safest conservative ridings in Canada

The pressure will be on Pierre to match that 83% level. A complication is the fact that their are over 200 people running in this election. There are so many people on the ballot that the ballots will be write-ins instead of the traditional checking off the name on the ballot.

The polls close at 8:30 Alberta time tonight. Given that these are. white-in ballots, it is anticipated that the lineups might still be long at 8:30. Therefore, the results probably won’t be known in eastern Canada until well after midnight Eastern time.

That’s all I have for today.
