Pierre Poilievre (PP) has a reason to smile this morning. The latest vote count shows that he has won 80% of the vote. This nearly matches the vote percentage received by Damien, Kurek when he won this riding back on April 28. This is a fairly impressive percentage for PP given that there were 214 candidates in this election.
When parliament opens in September, PP will again have a seat as opposition leader. Question period should be a lot of fun between him and Mark Carney. PP will still have to survive a leadership vote early next year. Given that there are no strong viable alternatives to him right now and given that he is still pretty popular with the conservative ranks, the leadership vote should be a formality. However, PP if he hopes to become next, Prime Minister has to find a way to become more acceptable to the overall voting public. He has said in the past that he recognizes his flaws and that he will work to address them. I guess we will see.
That’s all I have for today.
