Mark Carney made a surprise unannounced visit to Ukraine, this weekend, to help commemorate Ukraine 34th year of independence. He also announced Canada‘s continued support for Ukraine.
“Mr. President, dear friends, my message today is simple: Canada will always stand in solidarity with Ukraine.”
Mark Carney also provided details on the $2 billion in funding Canada will be sending to Ukraine to support their defence against the Russian invasion
Canada, under than Prime Minister, Brian Mulroney, was the first western country to recognize Ukraine as an independent country. Canada, under then Prime Minister, Stephen, Harper, when Crimea was needed in 2014, sent armed forces personnel to help train Ukrainian troops. Under Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, Canada took in 300,000 displaced Ukrainians.
That is who we are. Has Donald Trump gone to visit Ukraine? Nope. Joe Biden did. Other western leaders have. But not Trump.
We are Canadian and we should be proud.
That’s all I have for today.
