When I went to bed last night, I had my haiku and my chirp all set today. It would be about the NBA bombshell with indictments against a number of figures related to gambling, including Portland Trailblazers head coach Chauncey Billups. Woke up this morning, saw the above post on social media and thought it was a joke or a parody or something. Nope. It’s for real folks. Here we go again.
Now, Donald Trump has attacked a number of Republicans, such as John McCain and both presidents Bush. The one person he has not attacked is Ronald Reagan. Before Trump came along, Reagan was the Republican God. He could do no wrong. Those of you old enough might remember watching a movie, on your old black-and-white TV, of Ronald Reagan, co-starring with a chimpanzee in the 1951 classic ‘ Bedtime for Bonzo’. But I digress.
Reagan, even in these days, can do no wrong, in the hearts of many Republicans. Doug Ford premier of Ontario has launched a $75 million campaign, in the United States, attacking Trump‘s tariff policies. This includes a commercial being broadcast during major sporting events and other big TV events, using the words of Ronald Reagan attacking tariffs. As a result, see the post above that Donald Trump sent out late last night.
Trump is angry. What this commercial is doing, is pitting Reagan Republicans against MAGA Republicans. The commercial is a bit cheeky because it is a manipulation of what Reagan said that day. The speech that Reagan made that day, where his words were used, was to justify tariffs on Japan. But his words on the commercial appear to say that Reagan is against tariffs and tariffs are a bad thing.
The irony here is that Trump is the master manipulator in distorting information and what was actually said. Doug Ford is playing Trump‘s own game. As you could see above in Trump’s post, the commercial has really gotten under Trump skin.
So here we go again with another breakdown in negotiations. I wonder what Mark Carney is thinking right now. Is he and Doug Ford working as a team of good cop/bad cop? Or is Mark Carney saying to himself, what do I gotta do to get these negotiations over the finish line?
This freaking soap opera continues. I think many Canadians are at a stage where we are thinking screw it we will do the by ourselves. We will take the hit and start dealing with other trading partners.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
