A couple of hours before the 8 PM deadline, it was announced that a two week ceasefire had been agreed to between Iran and the US. That is good news, no matter how you put it. The price of oil has plummeted down and the Dow Jones rose over 1000 in response to this announcement.
But, and there’s always a but, there is complete confusion as to the elements of the ceasefire. Both sides claimed they have won complete victories with the other side backing down. The US claims that Iran’ naval and air forces are completely destroyed. This is true. However, the naval and air force basically consisted of military hardware given to Iran by the US over 50 years ago. So in that sense, the US was successful in destroying destroying their own military hardware.
US is saying that the Iran has brought into much of the 15 point US peace plan. Donald Trump is saying that the Iranian 10 point piece plan is something that US could work with. I find that hard to believe considering that the Iranian peace plan calls for total withdrawal of US forces from bases in the Middle East, reparations for damage inflicted on Iran and for Israel to stop its attacks on Lebanon. Israel says that Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire and they will continue attacking Hezbollah forces within Lebanon.
When does war started, the Strait of Hormuz was open. Now it appears to be under Iranian control and Iran may continue collecting tolls of up to $2 million per vessel.
Iran still has their enriched uranium. The US says that Iran will get rid of this uranium. Iran has said nothing about this. Oh, and by the way, Israel is still sending missiles into Iran and Iran is still sending missiles into Israel and other Middle Eastern countries.
So if you think this whole soap opera is over, it’s not. Not even close.
That’s all I have for today.
