This is Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf. You would know him better as Baghdad Bob or Comical Ali. He was Iraq’s information minister back in 2003 when the US, under George Bush, invaded Iraq

Bob was known for his outlandish quotes that defied reality. He would give daily press briefings, telling how the US were getting defeated badly on the battlefield.

 “Our initial assessment is that they will all die.”

“Baghdad is safe. The battle is still going on. Their infidels are committing suicide by the hundreds on the gates of Baghdad. Don’t believe those liars.”

I thought of Bob this morning, when I was watching the start of another Pentagon press briefing given by Pete Hegseth. Pete is starting to give some whoppers too. He keeps saying that the war is over, the Iranian military has been completely destroyed and this is a complete American victory..

This morning, even as he admitted that shots have been fired between the US and Iran, yesterday, he stated that the cease-fire is still ongoing. He has declared that the Strait of Hormuz is now open. As proof of that, Pete pointed out that the US escorted 2 merchant ships yesterday through the strait. Well, Pete, getting two ships through a day is not gonna cut it, at all.

Baghdad Bob survived the war and is now living in obscurity. It is most likely, the same fate will await Pete.
