This is just a short follow up on my chirp from yesterday. Both Iran and the US have indicated that an MOU will be signed this Friday. At which time, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened and all hostilities will be halted.
A lot of things could happen between now and Friday with the Trump administration, as we all know. We have not seen the text of the MOU. This is probably because it hasn’t been written yet because both sides have not agreed to what should be in it.
A few sticking points. Both sides agreed that all hostilities in Lebanon will stop. Someone should tell Israel that. They are definitely not happy with that and I don’t think it’s gonna happen. So there’s that.
Also, will there be tolls collected or not? The US says no and Iran says yes.
This MOU is to set the stage for a 60 day negotiation. In which all outstanding issues will be settled. Yeah, like that’s gonna happen.
Iran has indicated that the negotiation will not start until $12 billion in frozen assets are unfrozen. The US says that if frozen assets are unfrozen, it won’t happen until all issues are settled by way of mutual agreement.
Trump has jumped all over Obama for the agreement he reached with Iran, where $$1.8 billion was provided to Iran. I can’t see Trump allowing $12 billion dollars, let alone the $24 billion total to be released to Iran.
Trump goes to the G7 conference today. The G7 leaders are eagerly awaiting the details of this MOU agreement. They are not the only ones. Don’t be surprised if Trump leaves the G7 early to handle another Iranian crisis.
That’s all I have for today.
