Danielle, have not chatted with you for a while, given all the stuff your friend Donald has been doing south of the border. I guess you have this proposal you have to submit by Canada Day to qualify for Ottawa’s Major project list under the Building Canada Act. This would give you a number of streamlining powers and potential federal funding to undertake a major project. Your proposal would be a West Coast pipeline, which would be operational by 2033. It would give Alberta oil access to Asian markets, and for Canada it would diversify away from the United States. So it’s all good in theory.
When you undertook this a few months ago, you said that substantial funding would be provided by private investors. Well as I chirp this, Canada Day is tomorrow. The private investors you were boasting about, have not come forward. So now you are stating that you’re gonna go alone with this. That’s one problem and it’s a big problem. BC First Nations are not happy with the idea nor is the BC government who want a cut of this if you’re going to dig through their province.
Now, why would private industries not be lining up? Let’s see. What else is happening in Alberta right now? Of course. The whole separation thingy.
Did you study history in school, Danielle? In particular, Canadian history? Quebec did the separation thingy a couple of times. Each time it went to referendum, companies left Montreal in droves. Something about instability of the market and all that stuff. You’ve heard the phrase history repeating itself haven’t you? Well if you haven’t, you’re sure finding out about it now.
That’s all I have for today.
