if Donald Trump lowers his demented sights from annexing all of Canada to be a 51st state down to maybe one province, he needs to look no further than Alberta. Danielle Smith and her UCP party have passed Bill 11 the health statutes amendment act. This will allow physicians to participate both in the public healthcare system in Alberta and go privately as well.
Physicians would be required to work a minimum amount of hours in the public system, while making as much money as they can under the private system. Alberta hasn’t passed any regulations yet as to how this would be enforced. This covers services such as the knee replacements, hip surgeries, some ear nose and throat, surgeries, hernia surgeries, and other related surgeries. Danielle Smith claims that this will reduce wait times. Like fat chance.
There’s already a shortage of nurses and anaesthesiologist in the Alberta healthcare system. These private practice surgeries will require the services of nurses and anesthesiologist, which will increase the shortages of these two occupations in the public system.
What this means is that the rich will be able to jump the queue and the rest of us will be waiting longer for surgeries. Hello American healthcare system.
Oh, and this new system is a violation of Canada’s healthcare act. What a time to be alive in Alberta. Yes that is sarcasm.
