On the first Tuesday night of November 2020, I went to bed very depressed. Donald Trump was leading in a number of states and it looked like that he was going to come back for a second term. I woke up the next morning and the mail in ballots were being counted. It looked like Joe Biden had a chance to win. But it took a long while for the result to come to pass, and then there was January 6.

On the first Tuesday night of November 2024 depression again. The next morning Trump was still winning and he did win. I, and many other people, turned off cable news for months. It was too depressing to watch Trump celebrating his return to the presidency.

Now here it is, the morning after the first Tuesday night of November, 2026. it feels like my soul being freed. It feels like a beautiful sunrise, even though it’s still dark right now where I am. The birds are singing the grass is growing and I am enjoying nature’s wonder. That’s the best way I can describe how I feel today.

The House and the Senate belong to the Democrats, bigly, with more seats to come. And Canada has a liberal Prime Minister with a 70% approval rating.

Today I’m going to have my cake and eat it too.
