Trump has a history of claiming he did not lose, when he did lose. Often, when he lost, he claimed the election was rigged.
The Apprentice was nominated three years, in a row, for Emmy’s. The show lost each year. In the remaining years, of its run, the show did not even get any Emmy nominations. In the years it was nominated, the show lost to The Amazing Race. Trump claimed, later on, that The Amazing Race had no credibility. Trump claimed that the same shows won every year, due to politics, and, that his show should have won often
In 2012, following Trump’s humiliation by Barak Obama, at the White House Correspondence dinner, Trump called Obama’s reelection a total sham Trump tweeted
“We can’t let this happen. We should march on Washington and stop this travesty. Our nation is totally divided!”
Months before the 2016 election, against Hilary Clinton, Trump claimed that the election was and would be rigged. He kept saying that until the day he won. Even so, when Trump lost the Iowa caucus to Ted Cruz, Trump claimed that Cruz had stolen the victory. Clinton won the popular vote by 3.5 million votes. Trump disputed that, by saying that five million illegal immigrants voted for Clinton. He has kept on saying this, even though a commission he set up to prove his allegations, found nothing.
The 2020 election was complicated by the Pandemic. This resulted in a number of state, both blue and red, having a heavy mail in ballot. Mail in ballots are preferred much more by Democrats than Republicans. Trump railed constantly again mail in ballots, claiming opportunities for fraud. In many states, mail in ballots were counted last. Trump saw his early elections leads disappear, as election night and following days passed. Trump, as we all know, to this day claims that he won and that he won by a lot.
If anyone has rigged elections it is Trump. In his view, if he does not win, he claims the election is rigged. Following that methodology, and, a base desperate to believe anything he says, Trump can’t lose.
What is chilling is that Trump operatives had plans in place, before the 2020 election, to guarantee that Trump would not lose. The following are quotes made by Trump operative, Roger Stone, prior to the election.
“Fuck the voting, let’s get right to the violence,…I really do suspect it’ll still be up in the air. When that happens, the key thing to do is to claim victory,… “Possession is nine tenths of the law, no we won.”
The sad part, of all this, is that so many have bought into this.
